Rybczyński uses film and electronic media to create visual images which are not merely reflections of the superficial but rather penetrate the truths hidden deep inside. This is what the artist considers indispensable to achieve the aim of representing – and first and foremost – understanding the real world.

The author, director, operator, script writer and set designer of experimental animated films was born in Łódź in 1949. His top achievement was the 1982 American Film Academy Oscar for the Best Short Feature Cartoon for Tango. Interestingly, it was the first ever Oscar awarded to a Pole and to a Polish film production. In 2009, after years of work abroad Zbigniew Rybczyński decided to return to Poland. He currently heads the Wrocław Studios for Visual Technologies (Wrocławskie Studia Technologii Wizualnych), a centre for new media located on the premises of Feature Film Production Studio in Wrocław. The centre produces films and does its own research in the field of image, educating specialists in new media.
