Szymon Kula

Szymon Kula was born in 1994 in Katowice. He graduated from the High School for Fine Arts. Currently he studies at the Faculty of Painting at the Poznań Academy of Fine Arts. In 2014 he co­created a scientific project Kij w obraz (Sick in the Painting) organizing meetings, lectures and debates with artists and art critics. Szymon Kula has received Santander Universidades award for his versatile artistic activity. He is a holder of scholarships granted by the Ministry of Culture, Adam Mickiewicz Institute and Katowice City Mayor. Szymon Kula mainly concentrates on painting and performance art.

“My performance focuses on the question of identity of an artist in relation to the contemporary multidisciplinarity of art. The problem of the performance artist’s identity serves as the starting point. Is an ephemeral activity a form of migration from the area of permanent artistic activities? Or is it a sphere of a continuous motion, translocation or maybe even artistic nomadism?” – Szymon Kula
