presentation: Places in a place – Hvitsten Salong festival

Hvitsten Salong are an artist driven project with ties to the artist Theodor Kittelsens home (1891-1896) in Hvitsten, Norway. We arrange a large art festival once a year in addition to several smaller happenings.
In our project we seek a site specific- and historical approach. To a certain degree we also pursue a professional dialogue with contemporary and former artists that has lived and worked in Hvitsten.
Our vision is to complement the national and international art scene with an exciting and innovative environment in Hvitsten. Hvitsten has been a place where several of Norway’s most important artists have lived and worked at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Painters and illustrators as Edvard Munch, Theodor Kittelsen, Christian Krogh, Oda Krogh, Oscar Wergeland and Hans Jæger lived and, or worked here throughout their careers. We wish to give artists an opportunity to put them selves in the periphery of the Norwegian arthistory.
